Our obsession, your great experience

Dungeons and DragonsD&Dfunny

One of the campaigns I run is currently around 10 sessions old, but part way through two players left (they were a couple who moved out of town) and two new ones joined. One of the players was a first-timer and he thought it terribly funny if his character were to be named Roger Sexington, and his singular obsession/purpose in life is to partake in that particular physical undertaking.

Now, I've mentioned elsewhere on my site that roleplay when it comes to 'sex' is not really something I'm keen on doing as a DM, I had no real interest in pretending to be various bar patrons or noblewomen and have to pretend to be impressed by his one-liners or anything, so typically when he is of a mind to try to find a bed companion for the night, I just have him roll a general "charisma" check, and depending on how high he rolls, that's how "successful" he is for the night.

In any case, he thought it terribly funny in our first game that all he wanted to do was hook up with the female characters... whenever he saw their character sketches he would immediately say "roll for sex".

The first few times it was funny for everyone at the table... by the 20th time, he was probably the only one who was still quite so amused by it.

Now, to be clear, while it perhaps wasn't as funny for everyone else by that point, it also wasn't really annoying... this isn't the story of a "nightmare player" or anything like that - in general he's quite a constructive player and the rest of the table likes having him around.

But, anyway, his birthday came around and an idea jumped into my head... I'd make him a book, in the style of a children's picture book, with rhymes about all his attempts to 'bed' the various people (and creatures) he encountered.

Once an idea like that takes root in my mind, it's difficult for me to get it out of there until I've seen it through to completion. So, knowing the way my brain works, the only thing for it was to create the words and accompanying images and then have it printed into a picture book (the attached image is the result). While I was waiting for the book to come in the mail I took the images and used an AI music generator to create a song for the book, and upload it to YouTube, so I could then put a QR code linking to the code on the inside back cover for a little bit of an extra treat for him.

The song, if you're interested, can be accessed here: https://youtu.be/E42T2qVwIVQ

Why do I tell this story?

I think this is an example of the kind of obsession and care I put into my game, for the sole reason that I want my players to have fun. YES, this is a paid service and I make money for it, but for the time and effort that I put into making the game as good as I can, it's really not much (certainly below minimum wage, once the preparation time is factored in).

This is a passion for me, and if you're considering playing D&D I hope you will see that as a good reason to give Aspyre D&D a try.
