Party balance
You often hear Dungeons & Dragons players talking about trying to get a balanced party by having a range of martial, skill-based and spell-slinging characters. Personally, I much prefer that each player gets to play a character that they like playing. Sometimes, interesting things can come about as a result of having an 'unbalanced' party. So I generally advise players to make the character they want to make, and not worry so much about the characters others are playing.
