Chapter 6 - Aftermath
20 minutes
Objectives
The conflict between Darius, Elias and the party has ultimately been resolved. The main objectives for this chapter are:
- Tie up any loose ends
- Give the story a satisfying conclusion.
In general, you as the DM can determine the most logical outcomes of the character's actions, however here are some guides as to things that may happen:
Elias and Elara
If Darius is still alive and agreed not to harm Elias and Elara, Elias will tend to believe him, and propose that he and Elara remain in Port Llast. They can be relatively easily convinced by the party to leave the town, however. The party can convince the Captain of the Beckoning Horizon to take them on, or alternatively Elias and Elara can depart the following day on Needle, heading to the Moonshae Isles with whatever of their wealth they can carry, to deliver their current shipment and from there - who knows?
If Darius was killed, Elias will insist that he and Elara leave town immediately, and will ask for passage on the party's vessel, as he believes Needle will be too conspicuous and easy to find. They will accompany the party to Luskan, after which they will go their separate ways and try to seek a life for themselves.
Reward
If Elara is saved by the party, Elias will insist that they take some payment as a token of his gratitude, though there is little apart from gold and gems that he has to give. In all he has 228 gp, 106 sp, 54 sp and seven gemstones worth 10 gp each, he will seek to keep at least 50 gp (total value) for himself and Elara to start a new life, but is happy to party with the rest in gratitude to the party.
Darius
If Darius was killed, the party should make efforts to get out of town immediately, as Silas will hear of his son's death and seek retribution. In the unlikely event that there is still time in your session, you may like to plan one final combat encounter between the party and Silas and a team of suitably powerful henchmen. Silas may, or may not, know the identity of the party. If he does, then Port Llast will not be safe for them to return to, for as long as he remains alive. If he doesn't, then he will spend his remaining days trying to find out what happened. Eventually he will pay a travelling priest to cast 'speak with dead' to ask Darius directly what happened, this - at least - will lead him to Elias and Elara, though if they have already left town it may be of little help to him.
The Beckoning Horizon
The party may convince the captain of the Beckoning Horizon to depart early (though Silas will learn of the ship's early departure and be suspicious of it, and may send another ship in pursuit to find out why they were in such a rush to leave). Alternatively the party may abandon their contract and seek passage out of town early. Finally, they may choose to lay low in town until it is time to depart, and then leave with the Beckoning Horizon as planned. As the DM, you can decide the outcomes of their chosen actions.
